Wooden Toy MOQ
A minimum order quantity is a reflection of setup, not a negotiating position. Once you can see what sets it, it becomes obvious which parts of an order can be reduced and which cannot.
Why a minimum exists at all
A wooden toy is made in batches, and the cost of setting up a batch is real whether the batch is 50 pieces or 5,000.
- Machine setup. Cutting, drilling and shaping are set up per part, so the setup time is spread across the batch.
- Painting line setup. A standard colour is already on the line; a custom colour needs its own setup and its own batch of paint.
- Print and packaging setup. Printed cartons and labels carry a print run, which is often the binding constraint on a small order.
- Documentation. Testing, the declaration and the material specification are per item and per material combination, so they do not amortise across a mixed order.
What sets the minimum on a wooden toy
| In-stock items | 50 pieces per item. The tooling, the drawing and the artwork already exist, so the minimum reflects packing and shipping rather than setup. |
|---|---|
| Private label | Quoted per product. The item is the same but the packaging and labelling artwork is new, so the minimum follows the print run and the plate or die setup. |
| OEM and custom items | Quoted per product. The minimum follows the drawing, the sample rounds and any tooling or jig that has to be made for the item. |
| Colour and finish changes | A custom paint colour or a different finish is a production setup on the painting line, which is reflected in the minimum and in the price. |
| Packaging setup | Printed cartons carry a print setup and a minimum run, and the box minimum can be higher than the item minimum on a small order. |
| Mixed items | A mixed order across several items is normal, and each item carries its own minimum rather than the total order carrying one. |
The three levels, and what each one means
Almost every quotation you receive will fall into one of three cases, and it is worth knowing which one you are looking at.
- In stock, our own range. 50 pieces per item. This is the level to start at when you want to test a product on a marketplace or in a shop before committing further.
- Private label. Your branding and packaging on an item we already make. The item minimum stays low, and the packaging run usually decides the order size.
- Custom or OEM. Your design, which needs a drawing review, sample rounds and, where relevant, tooling. The minimum is quoted per product and is driven by the setup.
How to keep a first order realistic
- Test with stock items first. Validate the market with items at 50 pieces per item before you invest in a custom design.
- Adapt rather than invent. Changing the colour, finish or branding of an existing item carries a much lower setup than a new design.
- Combine items in one shipment. Each item keeps its own minimum, but the shipping and the documentation are handled once for the order.
- Accept a standard pack first. A house carton or a plain box avoids the print setup entirely and can be replaced once volumes justify it.
- Plan the reorder before the first order. Production takes around 30 days after order confirmation, so the second order is usually placed before the first has sold through.

What is not a minimum, but often looks like one
- A container is a shipping decision, not a production one. Goods can be shipped by LCL, and the minimum is set by production rather than by the container.
- A payment term is negotiable separately. Our standard term is 30 percent T/T deposit with the balance before shipment, confirmed with the order.
- A sample fee is credited rather than lost: ours is deducted from the bulk order once the order for that item reaches 1,000 pieces.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order quantity for a wooden toy?
50 pieces per item on our in-stock range. OEM, ODM and private-label items are quoted per product, because the minimum depends on how much is customised.
Can I order a single sample?
Yes. Catalogue items are usually dispatched within 48 hours and custom sampling takes about 10 days. The sample fee is deducted from the bulk order once the order for that item reaches 1,000 pieces.
Why is the minimum higher for a custom item?
Because a custom item carries setup that an in-stock item does not: the drawing, the sample rounds, and where relevant tooling, plus test documentation for the new material combination.
Do I have to order a full container?
No. The minimum is set by production, not by shipping, and goods can be shipped by LCL. Carton quantities and dimensions are confirmed before production.
Can I mix several items in one order?
Yes, and mixed orders are normal. Each item carries its own minimum, while the shipping, documentation and inspection are handled once for the whole order.
How long does production take after the order is placed?
Around 30 days after order confirmation, subject to complexity, material and quantity. Tell us any fixed delivery date and we plan the run backwards from it.
