Wooden Rocking Horses

Rocking horses and rocking animals built in our Yunhe plant: 50 pcs per item, custom paint and mane colours, EN71/ASTM F963 reports. Samples in 48h.

Rocking horses are a low-volume, high-perceived-value line that buyers use to give a wooden toy range a traditional anchor. We manufacture them in Yunhe, Zhejiang and supply them factory direct to importers, wholesalers and brands.

Wholesale wooden rocking horses: what actually decides the order

A rocking horse is judged by a child in about four seconds and by a parent in about four more - one for stability, one for finish. Both of those are decided in engineering, not in decoration.

Stability before decoration

The curve of the rocker, the width of the base and the position of the seat relative to the centre of gravity decide whether the horse tips forward when a child climbs on. Buyers who ask for a taller horse without lengthening the rocker end up with a product that comes back. We check the geometry at sample stage rather than after tooling, and the anti-tip behaviour is the first thing to sign off.

Size bands

  • Small. Roughly 12 to 18 months and up, low seat, wide base, often with a back rest.
  • Standard. The classic wooden rocking horse, for pre-school children.
  • Large or ride-on. Older children, heavier construction, and a freight decision as much as a design one.

Materials and finish

Solid wood for the head, rockers and legs gives the weight and the sound buyers expect from a traditional item; plywood is used where a panel shape is needed. Edges need a generous radius rather than a chamfer, because a rocking horse is grabbed and pulled as much as it is ridden. Painted faces and manes have to meet EN71-3 migration limits on both the finish and any attached fabric.

Compliance for EU and US buyers

Everything a child can grab is a potential hazard to test: handles, ears, manes, reins and saddles. Attachments have to survive a pull test, and any piece that could come off has to be either too large to swallow or removed from the design. In the EU the item needs CE marking and EN71 testing; in the United States, ASTM F963 compliance, third-party testing and a Children's Product Certificate. We produce to both and supply the reports covering your order; the certificates we can publish are on the toy safety standards page.

Freight and packaging

A rocking horse is a volumetric product: the carton size, not the unit price, decides the landed cost. Flat-packing the rockers and legs is the usual answer, and it has to be designed in from the start rather than added afterwards. We can quote both assembled and flat-packed configurations so the freight cost is visible before you commit.

Ordering

In-stock rocking horses start at 50 pieces per item. Samples are charged per item, in-stock samples normally leave within 48 hours, custom sampling takes about 10 days, and the fee is deducted from the bulk order once the item reaches 1,000 pieces. Production runs about 30 days after confirmation. Send your list and we will quote item by item.

How to compare wooden rocking horse suppliers

Six questions separate a supplier who can run this line year after year from one who can only quote it once.

  • Does the factory make it, or buy it in? Ask which plant produces the item and whether the woodworking and the painting happen in the same place. Ours are made in our own 6,000 m2 plant in Yunhe, Zhejiang.
  • Are the test reports for this exact item? A report has to name the model you are buying, not a similar one from the same family. We supply the reports that cover the items on your order.
  • What happens on the repeat order? Finish, colour and dimensions have to stay put between the first order and the fourth. Automatic woodworking and painting lines are what make that repeatable.
  • Who decides the carton? Carton dimensions and packing format move the landed cost more than a small change in unit price, so they belong in the quotation, not in the shipping discussion.
  • What is the position on spare parts? Missing or damaged components are the most common after-sales claim on wooden toys; ask how replacements are handled and at what point.
  • Where is the centre of gravity? Stability is an engineering decision, and it is the first thing a parent tests.

What usually goes wrong on wooden rocking horse orders

  • Stability treated as a styling question. It is judged immediately, and it is decided in the engineering rather than in the decoration.
  • One size offered for every age. The same design at different seat heights serves different ages and different retail positions.
  • Freight planned late. A rocking horse is bulky, so carton design moves the landed cost as much as the unit price.
