Retail Chains

A retail listing is won on the sample and lost on the second delivery. This page sets out how we handle the paperwork, the packaging and the consistency that a chain programme depends on.

The documents a buying team asks for

Retail compliance teams usually work from a checklist, and the checklist arrives before the purchase order does. Getting the paperwork right early is what keeps a listing on schedule.

  • Test reports for the item and material combination, from a third-party laboratory, against the standards of the destination market.
  • A manufacturer’s declaration naming the standards applied, which the importer or brand uses as the basis for their own declaration or certificate.
  • Material specifications for the wood, board, coatings and any added part, which is what an audit asks to see behind the report.
  • Social audit documentation including BSCI, and FSC chain of custody where the listing specifies certified stock.

The market-by-market picture is set out on the CE marking, EN71, ASTM F963, UKCA and Australian pages.

What a retail programme needs

Compliance fileThird-party test reports per item and material combination, a manufacturer’s declaration naming the standards applied, and material specifications if your buying team audits the file.
PackagingRetail-ready cartons or shelf-ready packaging printed to your artwork, with barcodes and importer details to your specification.
ConsistencyThe approved sample is held on file and production is compared against it, so repeat orders do not drift in colour, finish or dimension.
MOQ50 pieces per item on the in-stock range; private-label and customised items are quoted per product because the minimum depends on how much is customised.
Lead timeAround 30 days after order confirmation, subject to complexity, material and quantity. Repeat orders are planned against your delivery windows.
Social complianceBSCI social audit documentation and FSC chain of custody where FSC stock is specified (certificate ESTS-COC-240650).

Packaging and shelf presentation

  • Retail-ready packs. Printed cartons, display boxes or shelf-ready trays produced to your artwork, in the languages the market requires.
  • Barcodes and markings. Barcodes, importer details, age grading and safety warnings applied to your specification rather than from a house template.
  • Carton-level marking. Shipping cartons marked for your distribution centre, with the carton quantities and dimensions confirmed before production.
  • Transit protection. Packaging specified for the journey the goods actually make, which is a different brief for a container to a warehouse and for a pallet to a store.

Why repeat orders stay consistent

The most expensive problem in a chain programme is not a rejected sample, it is a second delivery that does not match the first.

  • The sample is the reference. The approved sample is retained and production is compared against it, not against a written description.
  • Materials are specified per item. Paint, board and fittings are held per item, so a supplier change on a coated part is a decision rather than an accident.
  • QC runs on the line. Sanding rounds, edge checks and small-parts checks against the age grade happen during production, not only at the pre-shipment inspection.
  • Batch records are kept. The shipped cartons link back to the production record, which is what a recall investigation asks for.

Frequently asked questions

Can you supply retail-ready packaging?

Yes. Printed cartons, display boxes and shelf-ready trays are produced to your artwork, with barcodes, importer details, age grading and warnings applied to your specification.

Do you provide the compliance documentation before the first order?

Yes. For in-stock items we can issue the test reports and the manufacturer’s declaration ahead of an order, so your buying team can clear the file early.

How do you keep repeat orders identical?

The approved sample is retained as the production reference, materials are specified per item, and production QC checks run against those specifications during the run rather than only at the end.

Do you have social audit documentation?

Yes. BSCI social audit documentation is available, and FSC chain of custody where FSC stock is specified (certificate ESTS-COC-240650).

Can you plan around our delivery windows?

Yes. Tell us the delivery windows when the order is placed and we will plan the production and shipment dates around them rather than quoting a lead time in isolation.

What is the minimum for a private-label run?

50 pieces per item on the in-stock range. Private-label and customised items are quoted per product, because the minimum depends on how much is customised.
