Wooden Drawing Boards

Drawing boards, easels and blackboards in wood for toy shops and schools. From 50 pcs, OEM sizes and branded cartons, EN71 and ASTM F963 reports.

Drawing boards and easels sit between toy and stationery, which makes them a good margin item and an easy one to get wrong on compliance. We manufacture wooden drawing boards and children's easels in Yunhe, Zhejiang and supply them factory direct to importers, retailers and brands.

Wholesale wooden drawing boards: what actually decides the order

Buyers usually start from the price and then discover that the surface, the frame and the accessories are what generate complaints. Settling those three points before sampling saves a development round.

Surface: chalkboard, whiteboard or plain

The writing surface decides the channel and the returns rate. A chalkboard is the traditional, low-cost option but generates dust and can ghost if the coating is thin. A whiteboard needs a coating that survives repeated wiping with a damp cloth without going shiny or lifting at the edge. A plain sanded board is cheapest and works for classrooms and for buyers who supply their own paper roll. Whatever the surface, the coating has to be assessed for what it releases when a child puts a hand on it and then into their mouth.

Frame and board construction

A solid wood frame takes knocks better and looks better on a shelf; a plywood frame is lighter and cheaper. Board thickness is the variable that quietly matters most: a thin board warps in transit and in a warm room, and a warped board will not sit flat on a table. We work to a thickness that holds shape at the sizes we quote, and we can supply a sample so you can test it before committing.

Format and accessories

  • Table-top board. A4 and A3 formats, usually with a raised frame edge or a clip.
  • Desk easel. Stands upright, often double-sided, sometimes with a paper roll.
  • Floor easel. Taller, for classrooms and playrooms, and the item where stability matters most.

Accessories do a lot of the perceived-value work: chalk and a holder, a dry-wipe pen, an eraser, a paper clip, a roll of paper. Each one added is a component, a small part and a compliance item, so the accessory list should be fixed at the same time as the price.

Compliance for EU and US buyers

Whether the product is a toy depends on how it is presented and who it is for. Sold as a children's toy it needs CE marking and EN71 testing in the EU and ASTM F963 compliance with a Children's Product Certificate in the United States. Sold as an art or stationery product for older children, a different set of rules can apply - so the age grading and the packaging text have to be written deliberately rather than inherited from the last supplier. We produce to EN71 and ASTM F963 requirements and supply the reports covering the items you order; see the toy safety standards page for the certificates we can publish.

Branding and channels

These sell well into education catalogues, museum and gift shops and general retail, and each channel wants a slightly different pack. We apply your artwork, barcode, age labelling and instruction sheet, and we produce to your approved sample - see private label wooden toys.

How to compare wooden drawing board suppliers

Six questions separate a supplier who can run this line year after year from one who can only quote it once.

  • Does the factory make it, or buy it in? Ask which plant produces the item and whether the woodworking and the painting happen in the same place. Ours are made in our own 6,000 m2 plant in Yunhe, Zhejiang.
  • Are the test reports for this exact item? A report has to name the model you are buying, not a similar one from the same family. We supply the reports that cover the items on your order.
  • What happens on the repeat order? Finish, colour and dimensions have to stay put between the first order and the fourth. Automatic woodworking and painting lines are what make that repeatable.
  • Who decides the carton? Carton dimensions and packing format move the landed cost more than a small change in unit price, so they belong in the quotation, not in the shipping discussion.
  • What is the position on spare parts? Missing or damaged components are the most common after-sales claim on wooden toys; ask how replacements are handled and at what point.
  • Which surface, and to which standard? Chalkboard, whiteboard and plain board behave differently and can be regulated differently.

What usually goes wrong on wooden drawing board orders

  • The surface. Chalkboard, whiteboard and plain board behave differently over time and generate different complaints.
  • Frame and board construction. Hinges, folding frames and moving parts are what fail first, not the board itself.
  • Accessories and format decided last, although the chalk, eraser and carry format are the reason the item sells as a gift.
