Play Food Manufacturer
Cutting play food sets in wood: fruit, vegetables and kitchen pieces that come apart and go back together, produced in our own factory in Yunhe, Zhejiang.
What we make in the play food line
Cutting play food is a fine-motor exercise disguised as a kitchen toy: the child holds the piece, lines up the knife and separates it. The product succeeds or fails on how that cut feels.
- Fruit sets (TS4500, TS4501) — apples, pears, bananas and citrus that split into defined pieces.
- Vegetable sets (TS4502) — carrots, tomatoes and aubergines, usually with a board and a knife.
- Kitchen sets (TS4503) — a mixed basket of food pieces built to go with a play kitchen.
- Branded sets — a printed board, a printed crate and your artwork on the box.
The range sits in the cutting play food category.

| Play food range | 4 catalogue items, TS4500 to TS4503, in fruit, vegetable and kitchen-set formats. |
| Materials | Beech and rubberwood for solid pieces, plywood and MDF for boards and boxes, with water-based paint on the automatic line. |
| Cut mechanism | Velcro or hook-and-loop joining on the cut face, chosen so the piece separates with a wooden knife and rejoins without wearing out. |
| Age grading | Typically 3+, because a cut piece can be small after separation. Sets for younger children use larger pieces and fewer parts. |
The cut is the product: velcro, magnets and wear
There are two ways to make a piece separate: a hook-and-loop strip or a magnet. Each has a different failure mode, and the choice should be made before tooling.
- Hook-and-loop. Cheapest and quiet, but it needs a flat cut face and enough surface area, and the bond weakens with use.
- Magnets. Feels precise and lasts, but every magnet has to be enclosed and secured, because of the ingestion hazard if it comes out.
- Cut faces. The two halves are shaped together so the seam closes flush; a cut face that does not close looks broken on the shelf.
We quote both, because the right answer depends on the price point and the age grade rather than on which is better in the abstract.
Safety: the awkward part of play food
A single item can be a large, safe piece and a small part at the same time, which is why play food is graded carefully.
- Small parts after separation. The test is applied to the pieces a child actually ends up holding, not to the whole item.
- Magnet security. Where magnets are used, they are enclosed and tested, because of the ingestion hazard.
- Edges and coating. Cut faces are sanded and the water-based paint is checked against the EN71-3 migration limits.
- Documents. EN71 reports for the EU and ASTM F963 reports with CPC paperwork for the US, issued per item.
Sampling and ordering
Play food is one of the cheapest items to sample, because most projects use an existing shape with new artwork or a new assortment. Custom sampling takes about 10 days, production runs around 30 days after confirmation, and in-stock sets start at 50 pieces per item.

Frequently asked questions
Do your play food sets use velcro or magnets?
Both are available. Hook-and-loop is cheaper and quieter, magnets feel more precise and last longer; we quote both so the choice can be made on price point and age grade.
What age is play food suitable for?
Typically 3+, because a cut piece can be small after it separates. Sets for younger children use larger pieces and fewer parts.
Can we have our own assortment and packaging?
Yes. Assortment, shapes, board printing and packaging can all follow your artwork, and the set is quoted per product.
What is the MOQ?
In-stock sets start at 50 pieces per item; OEM and private-label sets are quoted per product.
Which materials are used?
Beech and rubberwood for solid pieces, plywood and MDF for boards and crates, with water-based paint applied on the automatic line.
Do the sets come with a knife and a board?
That is specified per item. Most sets include a wooden knife, and a cutting board is included in the vegetable and kitchen formats.
