Wholesale wooden baby toys: what actually decides the order
Under twelve months is not a smaller version of the pre-school market. The hazards are different, the margins on safety testing are smaller, and a design decision that is harmless at three years old can be disqualifying at nine months.
Size, weight and mouthing
In this band everything goes into the mouth, so the small parts rules apply to every single component, including anything that could come off under load. Pieces need to be large, round-edged and light enough for a baby to hold, and there should be nothing that can be unscrewed, chewed loose or levered off. Rounded, sealed edges matter more than decoration on every item in the range.
Finish and saliva
A baby toy is exposed to saliva for extended periods, which is a different environment from occasional mouthing. Natural and oiled finishes are the safest presentation and are what the market expects; anything painted, dyed or printed has to meet EN71-3 migration limits, and the finish has to stay put rather than soften and lift. We produce to those requirements and can supply natural-finish versions of most of the range.
Cords, straps and attachments
Beads on a string, pram toys, clips and hanging items bring their own rules on cord length and loop size, and they are the items most often returned for tangling. If a product is designed to be attached to a cot, a pram or a high chair, the attachment and the cord have to be designed against those specific requirements from the start.
Rattle, bead frame or teether?
Teethers, rattles, bead frames and stacking sets are sold in the same aisle and are not the same product. A rattle has to survive a drop test and a pull test on its parts; a bead frame has to hold its wires and beads securely; an item sold as a teether is judged on what it releases into the mouth. Tell us how the item will be presented and which age band it is for, and we will produce it to the requirements that follow.
Compliance for EU and US buyers
In the EU these products need CE marking and EN71 testing, and the physical and mechanical tests are more demanding in this age band. In the United States they need ASTM F963 compliance, third-party testing and a Children's Product Certificate, and an item presented as a teether or a feeding aid may be assessed as a different product type altogether. We produce to EN71 and ASTM F963 requirements and supply the reports covering your order; the certificates we can publish are on the toy safety standards page.
Ordering
In-stock baby toys start at 50 pieces per item. Samples are charged per item: in-stock samples normally leave within 48 hours, custom sampling takes about 10 days, and the fee is deducted from the bulk order at 1,000 pieces per item. Production runs about 30 days after confirmation. Send your list and the age band and we will quote item by item, or see private label wooden toys for branded packaging.
Wooden baby toy MOQ, samples and lead times
Under twelve months is not a smaller version of the pre-school market: the hazards are different, and the specification decisions have to be made before the design is fixed.
| Minimum order | 50 pieces per item for in-stock wooden toys. OEM, ODM and private-label items are quoted per product, because the minimum depends on how much of the item is customised. |
|---|---|
| Samples | Items already in the range are usually dispatched within 48 hours. Custom sampling takes about 10 days. |
| Sample credit | The sample fee is deducted from the bulk order once the order for that item reaches 1,000 pieces. |
| Production lead time | Around 30 days after order confirmation, subject to order complexity, material and quantity. |
| Payment | 30 percent T/T deposit in advance with the balance before shipment; final terms are confirmed with your order. |
| Documents | EN71 (EU) and ASTM F963 (US) test reports covering the items you order, CPSIA and the Children's Product Certificate for the United States. |
| Mixed orders | Several categories can be combined into one shipment, so a container can be built from more than one product line. |
How to compare wooden baby toy suppliers
Six questions separate a supplier who can run this line year after year from one who can only quote it once.
- Does the factory make it, or buy it in? Ask which plant produces the item and whether the woodworking and the painting happen in the same place. Ours are made in our own 6,000 m2 plant in Yunhe, Zhejiang.
- Are the test reports for this exact item? A report has to name the model you are buying, not a similar one from the same family. We supply the reports that cover the items on your order.
- What happens on the repeat order? Finish, colour and dimensions have to stay put between the first order and the fourth. Automatic woodworking and painting lines are what make that repeatable.
- Who decides the carton? Carton dimensions and packing format move the landed cost more than a small change in unit price, so they belong in the quotation, not in the shipping discussion.
- What is the position on spare parts? Missing or damaged components are the most common after-sales claim on wooden toys; ask how replacements are handled and at what point.
- Has the item been through a mouthing assessment? At this age every product is mouthed, and that changes the finish and the component list.
What usually goes wrong on wooden baby toy orders
- Size and weight for the age band. Under twelve months is not a smaller version of the pre-school market, and a design that is harmless at three years can be disqualifying at nine months.
- Finish and saliva resistance, because at this age everything is mouthed and dropped.
- Cords, straps and attachments, which are the detail most likely to disqualify a design at nine months.
