Cutting Play Food

Wooden cutting food, fruit, vegetable and breakfast sets. From 50 pcs per item, custom contents and packaging, EN71 and ASTM F963 test reports.

Cutting play food is a small, high-frequency item that sells in every wooden toy channel and fails in one specific way: the joint. We manufacture wooden cutting food and play food sets in Yunhe, Zhejiang and supply them factory direct to importers, wholesalers and brands.

Wholesale wooden cutting play food: what actually decides the order

The whole product is the moment the knife goes through the piece and it separates. Everything else - the paint, the piece count, the box - is supporting cast. So the joint is the first thing to choose and the first thing to test.

The cutting joint

  • Hook and loop. Cheapest and satisfying to cut, but the tape wears out and it can pull off the timber if it is not applied properly.
  • Magnets. Cleaner sound and no wear on the face, but magnets bring their own compliance requirements when they are small enough to be swallowed.
  • Peg and socket. No consumable at all, longest life, and the least convincing cut - which is why it is usually sold to younger children.

Whichever is chosen, the joint has to survive a pull test and repeated use, and the parts either side of it have to stay too large to swallow in the destination market's gauge.

Piece count and the accessory list

Cutting sets are usually sold as a crate or a box with a knife, a board and a number of pieces - six, nine, twelve or twenty. The knife and the board are part of the value and part of the compliance work: a knife with a blade-shaped profile still has to be blunt, smooth and impossible to pinch with, and a board has to be thick enough not to flex.

Paint adhesion on cut faces

The classic failure in this category is paint lifting along the cut face, where a piece has been painted before it was separated. Sealing the cut face, or painting after cutting, is what stops the paint chipping off in a child's hand. Anything painted or printed has to meet EN71-3 migration limits.

Age grading and compliance

Cutting food is almost always graded 3+ because of the small parts, so the age marking on the product, the packaging and the listing has to be consistent. In the EU the item needs CE marking and EN71 testing; in the United States it needs ASTM F963 compliance, third-party testing and a Children's Product Certificate. We produce to both and supply the reports covering your order; see the toy safety standards page for the certificates we can publish.

Branding, sets and range building

Cutting food is one of the easiest items to extend: a fruit set, a vegetable set, a bread set and a full market crate all run off the same tooling and the same print. We apply your artwork, barcode and age labelling and produce to your approved sample - see private label wooden toys.

Ordering

In-stock cutting food starts at 50 pieces per item. Samples are charged per item: in-stock items normally leave within 48 hours, custom sampling takes about 10 days, and the fee is deducted from the bulk order at 1,000 pieces per item. Production runs about 30 days after confirmation. Send your list and we will quote item by item.

Wooden cutting play food MOQ, samples and lead times

The whole product is the moment the knife goes through the piece, so the joint, the paint on the cut faces and the accessory list are what the order really depends on.

How to compare wooden cutting play food suppliers

Six questions separate a supplier who can run this line year after year from one who can only quote it once.

  • Does the factory make it, or buy it in? Ask which plant produces the item and whether the woodworking and the painting happen in the same place. Ours are made in our own 6,000 m2 plant in Yunhe, Zhejiang.
  • Are the test reports for this exact item? A report has to name the model you are buying, not a similar one from the same family. We supply the reports that cover the items on your order.
  • What happens on the repeat order? Finish, colour and dimensions have to stay put between the first order and the fourth. Automatic woodworking and painting lines are what make that repeatable.
  • Who decides the carton? Carton dimensions and packing format move the landed cost more than a small change in unit price, so they belong in the quotation, not in the shipping discussion.
  • What is the position on spare parts? Missing or damaged components are the most common after-sales claim on wooden toys; ask how replacements are handled and at what point.
  • How is the joint tested? The joint has to separate cleanly and rejoin, and it should be tested on the sample rather than assumed from the drawing.

What usually goes wrong on wooden cutting play food orders

  • The joint. A loose joint falls apart in the box and a stiff one frustrates the child; this is the number one complaint on the line.
  • Paint adhesion on the cut faces. Cut faces are where finish fails first, and they are also where migration testing looks.
  • The accessory list drifting between sample and bulk, which changes the perceived value of the set without changing the box.
