Wooden Toy Carton Sizes and Container Loading Table
Cartons decide the freight, and freight decides whether a wooden toy quotation works. This page publishes the carton data behind 47 of our own items — carton size, volume, pieces per carton, weight, and how many fit in a 20 ft and a 40 ft container.
Carton sizes and container loading for 47 wooden toy items
A purchase order is priced in pieces and booked in cartons, and the two only meet in the specification sheet. This table is the carton data behind 47 of our own wooden toy items: carton size, carton volume, how many pieces go in a carton, gross and net weight, and how many sets fit in a 20 ft and a 40 ft container.
Every figure below is published on the product page of the item it belongs to — nothing here is estimated for the table. We checked each row against the carton volume before publishing it, and the items whose container figures did not reconcile are left out rather than printed with a number we cannot stand behind.

Loose-loaded, single item, full container, no pallets: that is what the container columns assume. The same data as a spreadsheet: wooden toy carton and container loading table (CSV).
How to read the table
Carton size is the outer carton in centimetres, in length × width × height. If you are comparing suppliers, this is the number that decides your freight bill, not the size of the toy.
CBM per carton is carton volume in cubic metres, calculated from the carton size. A 20 ft GP container takes roughly 28 CBM of cargo and a 40 ft HQ roughly 67 CBM, which is how you can sanity-check any container quantity you are given: divide the usable volume by the carton volume to get cartons, then multiply by the quantity per carton. If a supplier's container figure is far away from that, one of the three numbers is wrong.
Qty per carton is what is actually packed in one carton, in sets or pieces. A carton holding one balance bike and a carton holding 90 puzzles are the same box only in name.
G.W. / N.W. are gross and net weight in kilograms. Gross weight is what your forwarder and your importer's road transport have to carry; net weight is what customs and product-level duty calculations are based on.
20 ft GP and 40 ft HQ are the loading quantities we publish for that item, in the units shown. For the models with several colourways the figures are identical, because the carton is the same.
What changes these numbers
The table is a starting point, not a quotation. Four things move the figures:
- Palletising. Loose-loaded containers use the volume above; palletised cargo typically loses 10–15% of the usable volume, and more if the cartons are small. If your buyer receives on pallets, plan on fewer units per container.
- Mixed loads. A container holding three or four items rarely reaches any single item's figure, because cartons of different sizes do not tile perfectly. Send us the mix and we will calculate the loading.
- Packaging upgrades. A colour box, a window box or an inner carton change the master carton size, which changes both CBM and the loading quantity. Retail packaging is quoted separately for that reason.
- Weight limits. Dense items such as solid wood play food can hit the road or container payload limit before the container is full, so the volume calculation is not always the binding constraint.
Why we publish carton data
Most wooden toy quotations arrive with a price and a product photo. Freight is then quoted later, and that is where the quotation stops being comparable: two suppliers quoting the same unit price can differ by a third of the container once carton size and packing quantity are known.
Carton size, quantity per carton, gross and net weight, and container loading are four questions any factory can answer from its own specification sheets. If they cannot be produced per item, the quotation is not finished. Use the table above to test the numbers you are given, and ask for the same four figures for the item you are actually buying.

Frequently asked questions
How many wooden balance bikes fit in a 40 ft container?
About 2,206 sets for our standard balance bike models, and around 1,065 sets in a 20 ft GP. The exact figures per model are in the table above; for TS 9517, the numbers are 1,065 sets in a 20 ft GP and 2,206 sets in a 40 ft HQ.
What is a good carton size for a wooden toy?
There is no single ideal, but there is a useful target: a carton that fills the container volume with the least empty space per piece. Our balance bike cartons are 58.5 × 14.5 × 31 cm holding 1 set, which works out at 0.0263 CBM per set — that density is what makes a 40 ft container carry over 2,206 of them.
Do these container quantities include pallets?
No. The figures assume loose loading, one item, a full container, no pallets. Palletising usually costs 10–15% of the usable volume, so ask for a palletised calculation if your buyer receives on pallets.
Why are some items missing from the table?
Three items are left out on purpose. Their published container quantities do not reconcile with their carton volume, so we would rather reissue them than print a number that is wrong. They are available on request once the carton data has been checked.
Can you load a mixed container of several items?
Yes, and we will calculate the loading for the exact mix. Mixed loads rarely reach a single item's figure, because cartons of different sizes leave gaps — send the item codes and quantities and you will get the total cartons, total CBM and total gross weight before you book.
How do I get carton data for an item that is not here?
Ask us with the item code or the product name. We issue carton size, quantity per carton, gross and net weight, and container loading per item, and it is the same data we send with a quotation.
Ask for carton data on any item
Send the item codes you are quoting and we will return the carton size, quantity per carton, gross and net weight and the loading quantity for the container you plan to book.
