Wooden Board Games

Mancala, chess, memory and family board games in wood. From 50 pcs per item, branded boxes and custom labels, EN71 and ASTM F963 reports.

Wooden board games sell to two different buyers - the children's toy trade and the adult gift market - and the rules that apply to the product depend on which one you are selling to. We manufacture wooden board games and game sets in Yunhe, Zhejiang and supply them factory direct to importers, wholesalers and brands.

If you need a new format rather than a stocked game, our custom wooden tabletop game components service covers custom wooden meeples, custom wooden game tiles, a wooden board game insert organizer and a custom wooden game box. It also covers CNC cut wooden game components for OEM projects.

Wholesale wooden board games: what actually decides the order

Board games are the most copyable product in a wooden range and the easiest to differentiate, because the buyer is paying for the components and the finish rather than for novelty. Component count, board finish and the rulebook are what separate a game that gets played from one that gets put away.

Which game, and who it is for

  • Traditional and generic. Chess, draughts, ludo, snakes and ladders, noughts and crosses and mancala - no licence, no royalty, and a well understood price point.
  • Memory and matching. Tile-based, cheap to tool and easy to extend with new artwork.
  • Gift and adult sets. Chess in particular is bought at a much higher price by adults, which changes the materials conversation entirely.

Component count and packing

A game is judged by what is in the box: how many pieces, whether they have their own compartment, and whether the box closes properly with everything inside. Loose pieces in a single bag read as cheap. Inserts, drawstring bags and a hinged lid cost a little more and change the perceived price bracket.

Board printing and durability

The playing surface is the part that wears. Direct printing onto the board, a printed laminate, or printed paper under a lacquer all behave differently after a hundred games, and the choice is also a compliance decision because anything printed has to meet migration limits. For gift sets we will quote both a printed and an inlaid board so the price difference is visible.

Rules and language

Rules have to travel with the product: a rule sheet or a printed insert in the market's language, with a diagram rather than paragraphs, and consistent naming of the pieces. This is part of the artwork package and we produce it to your approved sample.

Is it a toy?

This is the question that catches buyers out in this category. A game sold for children is a toy and needs CE marking and EN71 testing in the EU and ASTM F963 compliance with a Children's Product Certificate in the United States. A chess set marketed for ages 14 and over is generally outside the toy rules - but that position depends on how the product is labelled, listed and pictured, so the decision has to be made deliberately rather than inherited. We produce to EN71 and ASTM F963 requirements and supply the reports covering your order; see the toy safety standards page.

Ordering

In-stock board games start at 50 pieces per item. Samples are charged per item: in-stock items normally leave within 48 hours, custom sampling takes about 10 days, and the fee is deducted from the bulk order at 1,000 pieces per item. Production runs about 30 days after confirmation. Send your list and we will quote item by item.

Wooden board game MOQ, samples and lead times

A board game is a gift and a family purchase at the same time, so the promise on the box, the piece count and the print durability are what decide the order.

Minimum order50 pieces per item for in-stock wooden toys. OEM, ODM and private-label items are quoted per product, because the minimum depends on how much of the item is customised.

How to compare wooden board game suppliers

Six questions separate a supplier who can run this line year after year from one who can only quote it once.

  • Does the factory make it, or buy it in? Ask which plant produces the item and whether the woodworking and the painting happen in the same place. Ours are made in our own 6,000 m2 plant in Yunhe, Zhejiang.
  • Are the test reports for this exact item? A report has to name the model you are buying, not a similar one from the same family. We supply the reports that cover the items on your order.
  • What happens on the repeat order? Finish, colour and dimensions have to stay put between the first order and the fourth. Automatic woodworking and painting lines are what make that repeatable.
  • Who decides the carton? Carton dimensions and packing format move the landed cost more than a small change in unit price, so they belong in the quotation, not in the shipping discussion.
  • What is the position on spare parts? Missing or damaged components are the most common after-sales claim on wooden toys; ask how replacements are handled and at what point.
  • Is it a family game or a gift item? The two need different boards, different pieces and different packaging.

What usually goes wrong on wooden board game orders

  • The promise on the box. A family game and a gift item need different boards and different pieces, and mixing the two weakens both.
  • Piece count and storage, which decide whether the game survives a holiday season in one piece.
  • Print durability on a board that gets handled rather than displayed.

The factory behind this wooden board game range

Boards and pieces are produced in the same plant, so a game can be developed and packed as one product rather than assembled from two suppliers.
